i was having a ‘debate’ with my parents the other day about FREE museums, I am aware that there was a article written in the independent about it last weekend. The article basically stated that although museums such as the ones in london are free to the public they tend to charge extremely high rates for their specialist exhibitions. For instance the Tate Modern had a Miro exhibition on which was £15.50 EACH, the argument is should museums charge a set fee for the whole exhibition thus making the special exhibitions included in the package or remain charging?
For me it seems like such a novelty when travelling to london to go to exhibitions for free, as in norwich you have to pay extorciant amounts for tickets and then EXTRA if you want to see speciallist exhibitions (ridiculous!!). I think in terms of allowing more people to have access they should remain free, with the voluntary donation of £1 for a guide map, but that is my opinion purely on the fact that with the amount of money i will spend to travel i don’t wish to then pay to get into places.
This is slightly off topic but still; if i really wanted to see an exhibition i would pay as long as the prices are reasonable, recently the Da Vinci ticket prices were £16 per adult, and as the advance tickets sold so quickly many unofficial companies were touting them at £250 a ticket, people were actually purchasing!!!
so, do you think museums should remain free and charge for special exhibitions?

Difficult. Museums are pretty much my favourite places ever, but I think as long as it is REASONABLE it’s alright cause it must cost so much.

I think museums should be free. you shouldnt need to be wealthy to experience beautiful art, even if you miss out of special exhibitions.
