my grandfathers room (by Ruby Smith)

my grandparents bought their house just after it had been built over 50,60 years ago. Nothing has changed, over that time neither of them worked on the house to maintain it, and now my grandmother is alone this is how it will probably stay. Upstairs the glass panelling on the bookcase is broken from when my father aged 10 played with a ball in the house and there is a daniel o’donnel poster on my grandmothers bedroom door. It is frozen in time in some ways, wallpaper to look like bricks and open stone walls. She has 12 armchairs, 2 sofas, 5 televisions, 8 wardrobes and lots of those funny beaded drapes. I thought about how many people have looked out of this window and how many people are going to look out of this window and it made me feel very very small.
